THE SADNESS OF WAR

WAR IN 2026— The sadness of war, when it becomes a playground...

ANALYSIS OF THE IRAN WAR
 Bernard Bujold -
Washington is currently facing an urgent need to significantly increase arms production from the defense industry to replenish stocks depleted by supporting Ukraine, aiding Israel, and preparing for potential conflicts in the Middle East. The U.S. defense industrial base is currently struggling to meet the high demand for weapons, with critical munition production failing to keep pace with increased procurement spending.
Here are the key details regarding the demand for more arms: Production vs. Procurement Gap: While Congress has more than tripled spending on missiles and munitions since 2015, production has not increased proportionally. For instance, procurement for Joint Air to Surface Standoff Munitions (JASSM) and Standard Missile 6 (SM-6) has roughly doubled, but production has only increased by 14% and 23%, respectively. Urgent Stock Replenishment: Recent conflicts, including in Gaza and the Middle East, have heavily drawn down U.S. stockpiles of artillery, anti-tank missiles, and long-range missiles. Production Bottlenecks: The defense industry is described as having a "pre-industrial" approach for some systems, acting more like craft production than mass manufacturing, which is hindering the ability to scale up quickly. Strategic Shift and Policy: The White House and Pentagon are pushing for faster output, with initiatives aimed at accelerating, streamlining, and strengthening the foreign arms sales process to help allies rearm and boost the U.S. industrial base. Industry Pressure: The Pentagon is considering using foreign sources as a backup for U.S. production and is pressing missile makers to double or quadruple the output of top weapons. The situation has created a scenario where the U.S. must balance its own .
